ACSE takes a multi-disciplinary approach to research. We choose partners with deep skill sets who will complement each other in order to achieve research goals, which in the case of communications and information technology can be quite varied.

In submitting proposals to national and international authorities, ACSE relies upon consultants and companies with pan-european networks (such as Innova www.innova-eu.net), that allow proper interfacing with the European Commission and ensures meeting requirements and guidelines laid down by the themes and action calls of the various Framework Programs.

ACSE brings knowledge and methodologies in many Knowledge Management domains (semantics, ontological approach, Knowledge Repository), elearning, advanced 3D graphics, simulations, dynamic user profiling, wireless protocols, acoustics and affective computing.

Genetic and heuristic algorithms used by ACSE for user profiling (Knowledge Management and elearning), mobile applications - profiling with wireless protocols(GPRS- EDGE-UMTS-WIFI)

Neural networks: Classification techniques and clustering of datasets for print character recognition in Optical Character Recognition applications

Fuzzy Logic theory of non-precision, that allows data handling, information and knowledge with varying degrees of vagueness, ambiguity or uncertainty. These processes have been around for forty years and have been successfully adopted in process controls, diagnostics, robotics and data mining. ACSE uses fuzzy logic in the project 'OntoScan' for handwritten character recognition in combination with bayesian probabilisitic theory for Intelligent Character Recognition schemes. This combination improves the reliability of ICR efforts.

Hidden Markov Models - classification and clustering of vocal data sets for recognising user emotions in eLearning instances.
