ACSE is the promoter and main coordinator of European research project MYSELF: “Multimodal elearning System based on Simulations, Role-Playing, Automatic Coaching and Voice Recognition interaction for Affective Profiling.” - PROGRAM CRAFT FP6-2002-SME-1 PROPOSAL N° SME-2003-1-508259 (April 2003) Score EU 24/30
In support of ACSE, main provider of research and development, 14 other partners (including 3 universities) from 8 different countries are involved. MySelf tackles a new theme in eLearning: that of business games and simulations onLine. Myself aims at creating a multimedia elearning experience with strong focus on experiential learning, online role playing and collaborative learning.
Previous experience had highlighted the lack of interactivity between the learner and his/her environment. Bridging this gap meant the development of tools that allow the modelling of the learning environment - typical of business games and simulations. These avenues imply that the user has direct input on the environment and thus walk though varying scenarios both influenced by his decisions and impacting on the same ones.
MySelf has two main focal points:
- product quality, which implies graphic quality - ergonomic and attractive interfaces that increase the sense of realism to the user
- an innovation for Italian and European marketplaces : a learning experience built upon a virtual world combining eLearning and simulations. The innovation extends in its application spheres: mobile agents, neural networks, genetic algorithms, mobile learning, interface dialogs.
Another innovative aspect of MySelf is its multiple modes. Instructions can be given verbally, be they commands issued to the platform or interactive learning instances
The contexts applied to Myself are in two areas: medical and banking
The medical target uses the Milan health bureau and aims to gain accreditation for its learning modules by ECM - Educazione Medica Continua.

Sealspaw is focused on advanced tourism services. Media contents and previews will be delivered via wireless; palms or smartphones will guide users through cultural destinations (chosen among Sicily's rich history) providing various information on locations via UMTS, GPS, GIS and RFID connections.
ACSE is the project coordinator and has various partners (Accademia di Belle Arti di Catania, Teseo, STT, Delta80, Dimsi) and contributors (Università (Università di Catania - Facoltà di Economia, Università di Milano Dipartimento di Scienze dell’Informazione – Polo di Crema , Università di Bergamo – Centro Studi per il Turismo, Innova)
Start: January 2006. Planned completion: June 2007
Analysis, design and prototype of innovative multidocument scanner for optimising document identification. OCR/ICR recognition of hand-written documents using ontological and semantic supports is targetted at banking, insurance and retailing industries.
The project is being run in collaboration with VIP-BUIC, an ACSE industrial partner. The goal is to build a prototype for a Scanner Multi Format with OCR for banking and a knowledge management system based on an ontological engine. It is being conducted with Università di Milano Dipartimento di Scienze dell’Informazione and the firm Genetica.

Environmental Management System is a software tool derived from optimisation analysis in managing SGAs
