Upcoming Projects
ACSE has numerous ideas that will fit in the European Commission's 7th Framework and in various national initiatives. We will illustrate a few here, where ACSE has drafted a proposal and will coordinate an already defined a European consortium
MHOSS - Mobile HOspital ServiceS through heterogeneous wireless access networks
The MHOSS project aims at developing an integrated platform to allow mobile users to seamlessly access enterprise data and applications through heterogeneous wireless access networks, according to multiple interaction models, and using a wide range of terminal devices.
The sanitary environment, in particular, has been identified as relevant application field: evidence suggests that inadequate access to information and ineffective communication are proximal causes of errors and other events in patient care; in this context MHOSS explores the use of novel information based approaches to improve information access and to deliver secure, reliable and transparent mobile services.
Main objective of the project is to design and prototype a system infrastructure enabling easy deployment of new mobile services in a hospital environment with a legacy hospital information system. Services we are interested in are not already provided by the legacy system, or they are not provided in a mobile environment.
TEACHER - Training System for Disabled Children based on Affective
Computing and Virtual Reality Interaction with 3D content provision
TEACHER is a research and technological development project designed to prove the technical and practical viability of mixed Virtual Reality (mVR) and affective computing (AC) applied to support children in developing new learning skills and increasing the autonomy and the
knowledge of those affected by weak short term memory disability by developing an open interoperable multimodal user platform able to provide advanced 3D audio-visual training content.
The innovative tool TEACHER will allow children to deploy their different abilities by following a specific learning path customised upon each capability and by supporting them also with mobile VR devices; children will develop their knowledge and communication soft skills through a pc based classroom and will continuously apply them thanks to the mobile devices as personal assistance: this will help them to be ready “to live and work in a new Information Society for all”
DSS - Risk Prevention & Emergency Management
Support system for forecasting and management in civil protection applications, using fuzzy logic, fusion of georeferential, ontological or metaheuristic data combined with wireless and GPS infrastructure.
Description: Analysis and prototype of a Decision Support System for simulating alarms in case of major disasters, with inferences to means and ressources distributed on the territory. Simulation in the area of Catania with seismic risks, volcanic risks, hydrogeological movements and industrial sites.
• Civil protection needs based on above risks
• GIS and GPS methodologies to be used according to risks highlighted
• Ontological and inferential techniques developed in case of alarm
• Use of fuzzy logic and other methodologies according to risk categories
• alarm and warning plans based on wireless tools (PDA, Smartphone)
